Here's a rendering of the new, new, New Beetle, courtesy of AutoBild. The 2009 edition of the remade icon still hasn't been shown in public, but that hasn't stopped artists and prognosticators from sharing images of a likely form for this most legendary people's car.

Rumours: Next Volkswagen Beetle to Be More Modern, Less Retro

The New Beetle is single=handedly responsible for Volkswagen's comeback in the late 90s, yet is the only model that receives the least attention by Volkswagen. The New Beetle has remained the same for almost ten years, thirteen years of you count the Concept 1 unveiled in the 1994 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Heck, it took Volkswagen eight years just to give it a slight refresh. And if you think about it, the New Beetle does pose a dilemma for Volkswagen. How can you redesign an iconic design? writes The VW Gazette

Rumours: The tale of 2 logos - Is it taking inspiration, theft or just laziness?

Some say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but we at .net Towers think this example is taking the biscuit somewhat and comes under the banner of 'copyright theft'.

How do you redesign the Volkswagen New Beetle? Maybe you don't.
The New Beetle, with its distinctive retro look, could fade into the sunset with the same shape, much as the first Beetle did.
Volkswagen has no plans to discontinue the car. But it has no plans to redesign the car either, even though it is six years old.

snakeguy writes: "The guys at my local oil change establishment coerced me into 20w-50 synthetic. They say VW sent e-mails notifying them that use of any other grade oil will void the engine warranty. I have not researched this any further - yet."

Rumours: Righ hand drive TDi and Cabrio

Simon writes: "Word reaches us from Peubla, home of the New Beetle, that at least one Right Hand Drive (RHD) TDi has been built.
The RHD diesel has been eagerly awaited in the UK with delivery dates being put back and back, much to many diesel fans frustration. At the moment the only way to get your hands on a TDi is to import a LHD version, either personally or through an importer.
The prototype has just finished being rolling roaded for over 20,000 km, so hope springs eternal that the RHD model will be available to order very soon.
As for the Cabrio, we have a longer wait by all accounts. The LHD Cabrio is due to be shown to the public early 2002 with the first models hitting the dealers forecourts in March but our man in Peubla states that the RHD version is unlikely to hit these shores for another 18 months and only if they get enough interest - 20,000 vehicles worth of interest."

Rumours: The New Beetle to cease production

Simon writes: "This piece appeared on the Club Concept website the other day.
----------------QUOTE------------------
In this month copy of Autocar magazine, the Head of VW Sales/Marketing was defending the Beetle against lousy press reviews (about time someone actually got through).
In the letter two things emerged.
1 NB production is now running at 150,000 pa with 9000 cars for the UK each year.
2 VW plan to end the Beetle's production in 2005.
----------------END QUOTE------------------
VW can't surely be lacking customers if waiting periods are to be believed, maybe the NB is costing them too much in warranty repairs...."
